Maybe you came to this page tired. Maybe you have heard the words “God loves you” so many times they no longer land. Or maybe you have never really believed them at all, because life, or people, or your own choices have taught you that love must be earned and can be lost.
I want to invite you to slow down for a few minutes. Don’t rush this. Read each scripture as though it were written with your name on it, because in a very real way, it was. This is not an argument. It is a walk, step by step, into the heart of a Father who has been waiting for you.
All scriptures are from the King James Version.
STEP 1Love Is Not Just What God Does. It Is Who He Is.
Before we talk about whether God loves you, we have to see who God is. Scripture does not say God has love, the way you or I might have a mood. It says love is His very nature.
“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
1 John 4:8
“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.”
1 John 4:16
This matters, because it means God’s love for you does not rise and fall with your performance. He cannot stop loving you any more than He can stop being God.
STEP 2He Loved You Before You Ever Knew Him
You did not catch God’s attention by getting your life together. His love for you began before your first breath.
“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”
Jeremiah 31:3
“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
Psalm 139:13–14
“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.”
Ephesians 1:4
Notice that word drawn. If you are reading this and something in you is stirring, that is not an accident. That is His lovingkindness, drawing you.
STEP 3He Sees Your Mess and Comes Anyway
Many of us believe God loves the cleaned-up version of us, the one we will be someday. But Scripture says He loved us at our worst.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
“Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.”
Isaiah 43:1
“Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee.”
Isaiah 43:4
Jesus told a story about a son who wasted everything and came home ashamed, rehearsing a speech about how unworthy he was. Look at what the father did before the son could finish:
“And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.”
Luke 15:20
The father ran. That is the picture of God’s heart toward you. You do not crawl back to Him. He runs to meet you.
STEP 4The Greatest Proof: The Cross
If you ever wonder whether God’s love is real, look at what it cost Him.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16
“In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
1 John 4:9–10
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13
“Whosoever” includes you. Not the you that you wish you were. The you reading these words right now.
STEP 5Nothing Can Separate You From It
Some of us are afraid that we have gone too far, or that one more failure will finally exhaust God’s patience. Hear this:
“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38–39
“For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.”
Isaiah 54:10
Mountains are the most permanent things we know. God says His kindness toward you will outlast them.
STEP 6His Love Meets You in Your Pain
If you are grieving, wounded, or simply worn out, His love is not distant from that place. It is closest there.
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
Psalm 34:18
“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”
Psalm 147:3
“Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands.”
Isaiah 49:15–16
Even if the people who should have loved you well did not, God has not forgotten you. Your name is written on His hands.
STEP 7He Doesn’t Just Tolerate You. He Delights in You.
This may be the hardest truth to receive: God is not merely putting up with you. He rejoices over you.
“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17
Read that again, slowly. The God of all creation sings over you.
STEP 8His Love Makes You Family
God’s love does not leave you as a servant at the door. It brings you inside as a child.
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.”
1 John 3:1
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”
Romans 8:15
Abba is the word of a child speaking to a father they trust. That is the relationship He is offering you.
STEP 9A Love Too Big to Measure, New Every Morning
“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.”
Ephesians 3:17–19
“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22–23
You will spend the rest of your life discovering how wide and deep this love is. And every morning, there is fresh mercy waiting for you.
STEP 10The Door Is Open
Love is an invitation, and an invitation must be answered. God will not force His way in. He knocks.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
“Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
John 6:37
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
John 1:12
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:9
You will not be turned away. Not today, not ever.
A PRAYER YOU CAN PRAY
If your heart has been stirred, you don’t need perfect words. You can simply pray something like this:
Father, thank You for loving me before I ever knew You. I have tried to carry my life on my own, and I am tired. I believe that Jesus died for me and that You raised Him from the dead. I open the door of my heart to You. Come in, Lord Jesus. Forgive me, heal me, and make me Your own. Teach me to live loved. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, welcome home. The Father has been running toward you all along.
Keep Walking in His Love
- Read these scriptures again this week. Pick one each day, write it down, and say it aloud with your name in it.
- Start with the Gospel of John. It is a beautiful place to meet Jesus for yourself.
- Find a community. Love grows best among people who are learning to live it too. Reach out to a local church or a believer you trust.
- Talk to Him honestly. Prayer is simply conversation with the One who already loves you.
You are not too far gone. You are not forgotten.
You are loved, everlastingly, unconditionally, and personally, by God.
